Feist’s “Multitudes” album and mini Concert: Raw and potent and touched with otherworldly beauty

Canadian icon Feist is back and better than ever with her sixth album, “Multitudes,” serving up a raw and potent dose of reality with a side of otherworldly beauty.

Feist, the hugely influential Canadian musician, has just released her critically acclaimed new album, “Multitudes,” on Polydor/Universal Music France on LP, CD, and digital formats. This marks her sixth full-length album and the first release since her critically lauded 2017 album “Pleasure”.

Produced by Feist, along with longtime collaborators Robbie Lackritz and Mocky, and additional production by Blake Mills, “Multitudes” is a raw and potent piece of work that explores themes of life and death, love and loss.

Recorded in a bespoke residential studio in the California Redwoods, the album was largely written and workshopped during an intensely communal experimental show of the same name through 2021 and 2022. The Multitudes production was developed by Feist with legendary designer Rob Sinclair and involved a subtle dramaturgical disarming of normalized conventions between performer and observer. It was the first live show to be designed with 360-degree immersive sound incorporated into the production.

The album comes with a beautiful live session, “Multitudes Mini Concert,” to be released on YouTube on 14 April at 2 pm AEST. The live session includes ‘The Redwing’, ‘Hiding Out In The Open,’ and ‘Love Who We Are Meant To.’ The album was also recorded with immersive sound designed into its production, in pristine audiophile grade Dolby ATMOS, by multi-Grammy nominated producer-engineer Robbie Lackritz.

Feist’s unique musicality was first explored in a local punk band as a teenager and later made her debut with 1999’s “Monarch (Lay Your Jewelled Head Down)” (an independent release primarily sold at merch tables). Along with co-founding Juno Award-winning indie-rock collective Broken Social Scene, Feist next achieved breakout success with her full-length sophomore effort “Let It Die” (winner of Alternative Album of the Year at the 2004 Juno Awards). Released in 2007, “The Reminder” earned international acclaim and landed on best-of-the-year lists from outlets like Pitchfork, NPR, Spin, and Rolling Stone.

“Multitudes” is a mesmerizing piece of work that showcases Feist’s talents as a songwriter and performer. With its immersive sound and raw, potent realism, it is sure to earn a place on many year-end lists and cement Feist’s status as one of Canada’s most influential musicians. Listen to “Multitudes” now and experience the magic for yourself.
