Introducing Flash Forest

Flash Forest, aka Sam Maquire, is a Melbourne producer who makes music that is like a fleeting bittersweet memory – one that leaves a lump in your throat. Like We Never Shared Time At All contains these soft personal piano chords and a building block of sampled beats which conveniently correlate with the lack of words, because the music tells a story all on its own.

His songs have this organic feel – inviting you into an evidently personal moment by using glitch electronic rhythms, rolling melodic beats and dreamlike vocals. But while on one hand Flash Forest has the happy-sad dynamic down-pat, he also manages to include a faint trace of hip hop within his sound.

The songs titles, One Night, The Way Your Hair Fell, Like We Never Shared Time At All, are all words that speak for themselves and ones that I can imagine a fair few melancholic Aussie teenagers can probably relate to.

Flash Forest frequently performs locally, playing at FBi Social in both Melbourne and Sydney. You can catch him next at The Noise Bar late Feb.
