Girl and Girl drop official video for ‘Dance Now’ and punk-umentary

Sub Pop, revered for its discerning curation, has set their sights on the pop punk garage infused Aussie band, Girl and Girl.

Sub Pop and Virgin Music Australia have joined forces to release the highly anticipated digital EP “Divorce +” from Brisbane‘s newest sensation, Girl and Girl. This exciting eight-track offering follows the success of their previous single, “All I See,” and introduces their infectious new track, “Dance Now.”

Kai James, the charismatic frontperson of Girl and Girl, couldn’t contain their enthusiasm when discussing the single and its accompanying video. James expressed their desire to break free from the pressures of art and creation by delivering something completely uninhibited and enjoyable.

The music video, featuring the delightful and exuberant Rose, showcases a chicken lady reveling in the simple pleasures of life, embodying a carefree spirit that James aimed to capture. “Her deepest desire is just to feel the wind in her wings,” James explained.

To complement the EP release, Girl and Girl have also shared a captivating “punk-umentary” directed by their friend, Alexandros Kalas. This six-minute video provides fans with a glimpse into the band’s electrifying live performances and behind-the-scenes moments. Additionally, it includes an insightful interview with frontperson Kai James, shedding light on the band’s inspirations and creative process.

Fresh off a successful fifteen-date tour across the EU and the UK, including memorable performances at The Great Escape and London’s Wide Awake Festival, the band has been making waves in the music scene. They even had the opportunity to support renowned Partisan Records act, Blondshell, during select dates.

Undeterred by their recent triumphs, the band is already hard at work on new material for their forthcoming Sub Pop debut. Excitingly, they have plans for upcoming tours in Australia, the UK, and the EU during the Fall season, culminating in an appearance at the esteemed Pitchfork Festival in Paris. More festival dates are expected to be announced soon.

Comprised of singer/songwriter Kai Aubort and the legendary ‘Auntie Liss,’ a stalwart of the early 90s Newtown punk scene, along with Fraser Bell on bass and Jayden Williams on guitar, hail from Australia’s sun-drenched Gold Coast but are now based in Brisbane.

The band’s close-knit camaraderie shines through in their music and exhilarating live performances, with Kai’s magnetic stage presence complemented by Auntie Liss’ impressive 37 years of drumming experience.

Girl and Girl’s unique blend of garage rock, infused with their shared energy and passion, has captivated audiences worldwide. With their Sub Pop debut on the horizon and an extensive tour schedule ahead, the future looks exceptionally bright for this Brisbane-based quartet. Music enthusiasts can’t help but be swept up in the infectious enthusiasm and unadulterated joy that Girl and Girl bring to the stage and their recordings.
