Happy’s Guide to Golden Plains 8

Number eight! It’s a pretty high number in terms of sequels, usually reserved for the likes of tired television series, software packages and the absolute bottom rung of film titles. Heck, MGM has only just announced the seventh installment of the Rocky franchise. Anywhom, Golden Plains 8 begins this weekend (8th March) in all it’s supernatural, vibrant, yurty glory. As usual, Happy are here to give you the lowdown on the lower order of the lineup – here’s Happy’s Guide to Golden Plains 8.

Michael Leunig

Sunday – 11:35 AM

Okay, so you might not recognise what a big deal this is on face value. One of the most recognisable cartoonists/illustrators/poets/storytellers in the country, there’s a good chance you’ve owned a calendar of his over the years – anyone worth their illustration chops should head down and hear what he has to say.

Tornado Wallace

Sunday – 3:30 AM

If diamonds are a girl’s best friend, then delay might be the electronic musician’s best friend. Bringing you right back to that tripped out 16bit acid phase of the late 1990’s, this dude is a must see for anyone who appreciates a skillfully oscillated filter and subtle say-yay synth tones. Treat yourself to a pleasant comedown with Tornado Wallace.

Osaka Monaurail

Sunday – 5:15

Japan’s premier funk outfit. Need I say more? Watch this video and tell me this isn’t the most amazing thing ever.

Los Coronas

Sunday – 2:10 PM

Just when you thought you had heard all of the combinations that you can do with surf music, here come Los Coronas with an all groovin’ Español vibe to shatter your illusion about surf music. We had some nice words to say about them a few days ago – check out what David has to say right here.

Hiatus Kaiyote

Sunday – 12:50 PM

Time to face facts I think – Neo-soul sux*. What really makes soul artists so memorable are the talents and the groove of the musicians themselves. When it comes to awesome musicians there are few better than those showcased in Hiatus Kaiyote, a Melbourne four piece who seriously shake it up performance wise. Listen to them rip up Boom Child/Ocelot live below.

Seekae

Sunday – 4:10 PM

Fuckin’ yeah! It seems like ages since I saw a Seekae gig posted anywhere – Alex Cameron‘s been doing his own shit all over town, but finally it looks like the band is back together to showcase (hopefully) some new tunes! Just in case your ears aren’t bleeding yet from hearing this every 90 minutes on FBi, listen to Another again here:
