Goodgod is the home of limbo, Beyonce, pork buns and chilled vibes

Goodgod Small Club is one of Sydney’s most intimate venues. It’s hosted a bunch of cool artists, musicians and nights. Just last year I saw Skrillex there, with some of the best modern musicians in Sydney for the EMC. Other fave acts to have graced the Cuban Australian love child includes Flight Facilities, Jamie xxSeekae and Diplo.

Only a stone’s throw away from Town Hall, Goodgod hosts Beyonce dance classes, trivia nights, pork buns and of course, a slick sense of music

It’s a fuss-free life down at Goodgod. They specialise in punch jugs, and host different food styles every six months or so in their Danceteria. Last year saw an American style diner, but they’ve recently paired up with Belly Bao to serve Bao (steam-bun-pork-tacos)! When traversing into the basement stronghold that is “Good God, A Small Club” one must pass through the canteen area with uber comfy booths. If you can manage to get past the temptation of the mouth watering food, there are a couple more dark, intimate booth areas adjacent to the dancefloor. This is where it gets real. Lucky the bar service is swift and ice cool.

In only a short time Goodgod gained a notoriety for good music and vibes alike. Known as a stronghold for independent and experimental music, it’s one of a handful of rad Sydney spaces which was built by community and cemented by good taste. No wonder they were awarded the SMAC of the Year in 2011 by FBi radio.

Heading there post-Laneway was the perfect wind down after Jon Hopkins and Tkay Maidza. Its dim booths, columns, and cornered off areas make it sexy and intimate space. The grunge orientated bar has all the essentials; cheap tinnies and expensive champagne. The approach to entertainment is so left of centre it sits well with me. They’ve been known to host some rad events, including Beyonce trivia nights, zine launches, Dutty Dancing and even a ‘Girls Gone Mild’ event. They know what the peoples want, and they deliver it.

Goodgod built themselves from a genuine passion and interest. This hasn’t stopped while building the establishment. Now allowing access to Goodgod vibes at festivals, gatherings and experiences with tents and stages, curated spaces and, frankly, who knows what else will consolidate from Goodgod energy.

They have a trivia every Wednesday, cool themed nights, are open to charitable causes using their space and seem pretty big on the ‘give back’ aspect. All in all it’s like having your own Hawaiian island getaway when you want to get away to party and chill. Best taken with good mates.
