Happy Presents: Shining Bird’s ‘Deadlands’ NSW album tour

This December, join Shining Bird as they embark on their first set of shows since releasing their sprawling 2021 album Deadlands.

For almost as long as Happy Mag has existed, we’ve been fans of Shining Bird. An eclectic rock band inspired by the Australian wilderness and all its inhabitants, they’re an absolutely wonderful live show – especially after a live music drought.

This December Shining Bird will be embarking on a three-date tour throughout New South Wales, marking the first time they’ve played shows since releasing their latest album Deadlands.

Deadlands was the fourth album from Shining Bird, and indeed the latest in a series of conceptually airtight, cinematic records by the band. Co-produced by Tim Whitten (The Go Betweens, Midnight Oil) and Shining Bird’s own keyboardist Russell Webster, it also marked the first time they’ve tracked an album live.

Each song on Deadlands is an odyssey in its own right, the album comprised of just five songs with much higher-than-average runtimes.

Starting December 1st in Sydney alongside Johnny Hunter and Bored Shorts, Shining Bird’s Deadlands tour will also take the seven-piece to Wollongong and Ulladulla.
