New Zealand neo-soul two-piece Dillastrate just capped off a massive summer tour around New Zealand, and they loved it so much they’ve just released a song about it. Better Than This feels like a great summer – soaked in warm analogue synthesisers and infectious vocal hooks.
With the track’s release, the duo continue their streak of releasing shimmering pop gems. If you’re not already familiar with this band, it’s definitely time you changed that.
New Zealand two-piece Dillastrate have captured the splendours of a huge summer tour in their infectious new track Better than This.
Co-written by Driver and Kaa from the band and their producer Purchase (Ben Malone), the track was recorded in early January at BigPop Studios and Parachute Studios in Auckland.
“We really wanted to pay tribute to the music culture that has given us so much and that we feel intimately a part of,” Driver says of the track.
“As the summer is fast receding in New Zealand, we hope that by releasing this song we can capture and retain a bit of the summer just been, and maybe provide a soundtrack for our Northern Hemisphere listeners to get excited about the incoming warmer weather.”
If you like Dillastrate as much as we do, strap in, because they’ve got a full-length album slated for release midway through this year. If this new single is anything to go by, I think we can safely expect plenty more quality material.
In the meantime, you can listen to the cool, summery synths of Better Than This above.
