Huge news! NSW Government announces changes to lockout laws to start in January

The NSW Government has finally announced some changes to the current lockout laws in place across the Sydney CBD and Kings Cross. Following a review back in September and subsequent recommendations for a “staged relaxation”, a trial will take place for two years, and will kick off in January, as Fairfax reports.

Huge news! NSW Government announces changes to lockout laws starting in January 2017 with the introduction of a two year “staged relaxation”.

The “relaxation” will mean the 1.30am lockout will be pushed to 2am and 3am last drinks will be pushed to 3:30 for live entertainment venues in Kings Cross and the Sydney CBD; also, the ban on take away sales and home delivery of alcohol after 10pm will be shifted to 11pm.

Following the review in October, Premier Mike Baird agreed to make the changes to the lockout laws, however, anti-lockout group Keep Sydney Open were still apprehensive about the shift, posting to their Facebook:

“Pushing back the lockouts by half an hour will do little to help small businesses, the music scene or reinvigorate our dying inner-city precincts. It’s an unacceptable result that shows how oblivious the Premier is to how cities and culture operate.”
