Our endless love affair with dream pop continues as we present another young Aussie wonder. Imagine thick, dreamy, psychedelic pop submerging your senses in a cloud of reverie, transporting you to a gravity-less aural soundscape. A cosmic love affair. Sunbeam Sound Machine is Melbourne musician Nick Sowersby, the young purveyor of ambient dream pop.
You can never have enough dream pop in this world. Sunbeam Sound Machine add shoegaze rock to the mix and the results can only be described as “cosmic bliss”.
Beginning his musical journey in his mid-teens, singing and playing guitar in various bands, 2013 was the year Sowersby’s bedroom project became Sunbeam Sound Machine. Now a five-piece live band, Sunbeam Sound Machine has played a residency at the Tote and supported acts like Cults and Soda Eaves, and it’s only the start for this otherworldly dream-pop outfit.
Debut release One/Sunbeam Sound Machine, is a double EP with double the dreaminess and double the spacey psych-pop stylings. While One creates a hazy atmosphere of melodious dreamwave pop, Sunbeam Sound Machine maintains a perfect balance between Animal Collective and Tame Impala, calling to mind a floating cloud of shoegazing dream-pop. Sounds like a dream. In Cosmic Love Affair, reverb-soaked vocals ebb and flow like shooting stars streaking through the night sky, while climactic pulses of psychedelia interlace the track. It’s a universe-spanning epic of cosmic bliss.
New single Real Life is a warm, fuzzy, dream-pop track consistent with Sunbeam Sound Machine’s characteristic sound. A flurry of washed-out textures and layers of reverb-heavy vocals give an enticing precursor to their upcoming debut album.
Sunbeam Sound Machine’s debut album Wonderer will be released in November through Dot Dash / Remote Control Records.
To celebrate the release of their new single Real Life, Sunbeam Sound Machine will spreading their dream-poppin’ sunbeams around Sydney and Melbourne.
