Is SZA calling it quits for a while?

It’s been a successful year for SZA, but the singer has revealed she plans to “disappear” now that her latest album has been released.

In a new cover story with Consequence, SZA (whose real name is Solána Imani Rowe) has revealed she intends to “disappear, definitely, for as long as I can” now that her latest album SOS has been released and her promotion obligations for it are wrapping up.

SOS was released last week to widespread acclaim from fans and critics alike, with Pitchfork stating that the album “solidifies her position as a generational talent”.

There’s no denying that Imani Rowe has been busy, having endured the whirlwind of music video shoots, interviews, and TV performances that come with releasing a high-profile pop album, it’s presumably enough to wear down those with even the highest of work ethics.

These wishes for a break have evidently softened in the days since the interview (either that or someone on her team has bills to pay) because the artist recently announced an extensive run of North American Arena shows through 2023 – something that’s about as far away from “disappearing” as one could possibly get.

The tour announcement may not be the contradiction it appears at face value, though, as Imani Rowe also mentioned that touring can be a reprieve in and of itself for her, stating to Consequence “I love touring. Touring is healing. That’s it, It definitely reminds you that people love you and not everybody is a reflection of the Internet that’s just trying to troll you.”.

Still, here’s hoping SZA does eventually get to take the well-earned break she wishes for.
