Jon Bon Jovi tests positive for COVID-19

Music icon Jon Bon Jovi has cancelled a Miami Beach performance at the last minute after testing positive for COVID-19.

Coronavirus has run rampant in the music industry, and it just affected another star. Bon Jovi, 59 years old, was scheduled to perform at the Saturday night show ‘Runaway with JBJ’, a Halloween concert in Loews South Beach consisting of an acoustic storyteller performance, Q&A and photo-op with the legendary rock star.

However, things took an unexpected turn when the singer’s brother, Matt Bongiovi, was forced to appear on stage, minutes before the performance, to announce the Livin’ on a Prayer singer’s diagnosis.

“There was a lot of disappointment from the fans but understanding that Jon’s health is more important,” said Kerry Splitter – a fan of Bon Jovi – when speaking to Asbury Park Press.

The New York Post says the singer’s band (who all received negative tests) stayed to play their set. The hitmaker’s publicist, Kristen Foster, spoke to CNN to confirm that the singer is “fully vaccinated and feeling fine”.

Additionally, CNN quoted Foster as saying that the event’s organisers are looking into “ways to address the missed performance portion of the weekend”. The 200 fans in attendance were required to be fully vaccinated or have proof of a negative COVID-19 test.

Video footage from WSVN shows the singer leaving his hotel after the surprise announcement, before being driven off by his brother.

This is not the first time the musician has brushed shoulders with COVID-19. Last year, his 19-year-old son Jacob Bongiovi, and bandmates, David Bryan and Everett Bradley, all contracted the virus.

While everyone made a full recovery, Bon Jovi has stressed the importance of taking the pandemic seriously.

“So we’ve seen a lot of people that we know… Lives have been lost of friends and people that we are close with. So this is really, this is nothing to mess around with. This couldn’t be more real, folks. Wear your mask, do the right thing, because it’s real,” Bon Jovi said as quoted by Billboard.

Bon Jovi has not yet spoken out about his current diagnosis.
