Later With Jools Holland top five musical moments

Jools Holland receives Award recognising 30 years of music TV. To celebrate his contribution to music, we take a look at the best performances of the last 30 years.

Later… With Jools Holland marked its 30th anniversary earlier this month in front of 3,000 fans. Celebrating three decades of his well-known music show, the host, and pianist was presented a jazz award by actor Hugh Laurie at the 2022 Jazz FM Awards in London on Thursday.

Holland’s television show has helped launch the careers of numerous jazz artists, not to mention the hundreds of rock/pop/indie acts that have performed on the show. Below we look at our top five favourite Later… With Jools Holland performances, from the powerful piano solo from Cat Power, to Pheonix’s Tonight.

Jools Holland has had an illustrious run, first as a founding member of the British pop band Squeeze, he branched out into TV, co-presenting the music show The Tube with Paula Yates. Holland used the phrase, “be there, or be an ungroovey fucker” in one early evening TV trailer for the show, live across two channels, causing him to be suspended from the show for six weeks.

In addition to Later… With Jools Holland, he also presents Jools’ Annual Hootenanny, an annual show that has rung in the New Year with acts Paul McCartney, Kylie Minogue, Adel, Madness, Tom Jones, Nile Rogers, and Stormzy.
