The Irony: Kevin Spacey returns to acting to play sexual abuse investigator

Actor Kevin Spacey, despite having numerous sexual misconduct allegations, will play a sexual abuse investigator.

The actor who went on a hiatus following approximately twenty sexual assault allegations is returning to the big screen.

The Italian film ‘L’Uomo che disegno Dio‘ (The Man Who Drew God’) is about a blind artist who is wrongly accused of sexual abuse. Spacey plays the detective who investigates these sexual abuse claims.

Yes, you read that right.

The irony of the situation has not been lost on me and apparently not the public either.

Director Frances Nero on the other hand seems rather pleased with Spacey being on board, saying: “I consider him a great actor and I can’t wait to start the movie.” Yikes, talk about out of touch.

Spacey’s downfall came during 2017 at the height of the #MeToo movement when actor Anthony Rapp accused him of sexual misconduct.

Rapp’s accusation sparked a slew of accusations from other men, ranging from unwanted advances to sexual harassment.

In response, Spacey made the odd decision to take the accusations as an ‘opportunity’ to come out as gay. Yeah, definitely bad optics.

He was subsequently removed from his starring role on House of Cards and All the Money in the World, the latter in which he was replaced by Christopher Plummer.

Spacey’s return to acting has also sparked conversation regarding the ramifications of sexual abuse in Hollywood.

Many feel his return only 4 years after the accusations is a slap in the face to victims of sexual assault.

Not to mention the… questionable nature of his new role that hits a little too close to home.

We can only hope the rightful backlash he receives will make Hollywood understand that the public does not want sexual assault perpetrators on their big screens.
