Lana Del Rey has confirmed she will be performing at the upcoming Glastonbury Festival after previously appearing to threaten to cancel her scheduled appearance.
Lana Del Rey, the American pop star, has put to rest any doubts about her appearance at the Glastonbury Festival this year, after having previously appeared to threaten to withdraw from the festival.
The 37-year-old confirmed that she will be headlining the Other Stage in June, and is “excited” to tell her fans about it. Her statement comes two weeks after she expressed her dissatisfaction with the festival’s line-up poster, which listed her below what she considered “smaller” acts in alphabetical order.
In a now-deleted Instagram post, she wrote, “Thanks for announcing that I was headlining the other stage. Thumbs up,” and also hinted at the possibility of cancelling her performance. As first reported by Sommerset.Live Lana Del Rey has confirmed in an interview on BBC Radio 1 with Clara Amfo that she is excited about headlining the Other Stage and even divulged that she vividly remembers her last performance at the festival almost a decade ago. “We did do it before, like eons ago,” she said. “But honestly, it feels like yesterday.”
Lana recalled her unique stage setup, where the crowd was set back about a thousand feet, making it challenging for her to move closer to her fans. “Every time I tried to come forward past the monitors to get closer to everybody, the feedback would ring through the crowd. I thought, ‘Oh wow, I’m really stuck on this stage – I can’t go down like I usually do and sing with everybody’.”
Apparently, Glastonbury Festival organizers had been trying to book Lana for the past three years, but she wanted to wait until she had a big band before agreeing to perform. And now that the time has finally come, she’s thrilled to be taking the stage. “As we started to announce some festivals, it’s unfathomable to me to headline the second stage of Glastonbury,” she said. Well, we can’t wait to see what Lana and her band have in store for the Other Stage.
