Little Simz has dropped one of 2022’s best albums out of nowhere

Little Simz has dropped her fifth studio album NO THANK YOU, and it’s great.

In a surprise move, Mercury Prize winning rapper Little Simz has dropped the follow up to her critically acclaimed 2021 album Sometimes I Might Be Introvert just one week after announcing its existence.

There were no singles, nor any build-up, just a full album straight to us for our listening pleasure, what a treat!

NO THANK YOU features production by long-time collaborator Inflo and Simz’ trademark introspective lyricism and razor-sharp flows.

Is it as good as Introvert, which saw near-universal praise from music critics and even nabbed Simz a Mercury Prize? Time will tell. The Pitchforks and Fantanos of the world are yet to release their reviews and tell the herds of impressionable music nerds what their opinions should be.

In the humble opinion of this music writer (which you’re welcome to claim as your own, you’re welcome), NO THANK YOU isn’t quite as good as the revered album that precedes it. The quality of production and lyricism reaches the same heights as Introvert, but NO THANK YOU forgoes much of the grandiose and creative soundscapes and themes that made Introvert feel so special.

Still, the new album is easily among Sim’z best work, and even being the second best Little Simz album (which I would argue it is) easily makes this one of the best records released this year.

NO THANK YOU is available now on all major music streaming services.
