No consent, no concert, says late bassist’s family.
The family of Stone Roses legend Gary “Mani” Mounfield has condemned plans for future tribute concerts, labelling unauthorised events “incredibly upsetting and disrespectful.”
Less than nine months after the bassist’s death at 63, promoters are reportedly organising annual “Manichester” gigs, following a well-attended tribute at Diecast featuring Cast, Peter Hook, and a star-studded band.
While organisers claim they want to honour a “national treasure,” Mani’s sons and immediate family have not been consulted. In a heartfelt statement, relatives insist that “official memorial events will happen” only when the time is right and sanctioned by his children.
They urge promoters to cease exploiting his name and image, allowing the family to grieve in peace.
A permanent mural has since been unveiled in Manchester, but the dispute casts a shadow over how the city celebrates its beloved musical hero.
