Bob Dylan’s Rolling Thunder Revue tour is the subject of a new Scorsese-directed documentary

UPDATE: ROLLING THUNDER REVUE: A BOB DYLAN STORY BY MARTIN SCORSESE will hit streaming platforms as well as select theatres on  JUNE 12.

A documentary directed by Martin Scorsese detailing Bob Dylan’s notorious Rolling Thunder Revue tour is headed straight for Netflix, in a statement confirmed by the streaming giant themselves.

Bob Dylan’s Rolling Thunder Revue tour is the subject of a new documentary directed by seminal filmmaker Martin Scorsese, with a release date yet to be confirmed.

In a short statement about the film, Netflix shared:

“Rolling Thunder Revue: A Bob Dylan Story by Martin Scorsese captures the troubled spirit of America in 1975 and the joyous music that Dylan performed during the fall of that year. Part documentary, part concert film, part fever dream, Rolling Thunder is a one of a kind experience, from master filmmaker Martin Scorsese.”

While the film is still some months away, Netflix has let a few facts slip: the documentary’s title, Rolling Thunder Review: A Bob Dylan Story by Martin Scorsese, and that Dylan, who is known for being averse to interviews, was featured speaking on camera.

Bob Dylan’s Rolling Thunder Revue tour took place between 1975 and 1976 and saw the musician playing a string of state theatre shows with little advance notice. Among the performers who joined Dylan on stage were Joan Baez, Ramblin’ Jack Elliot and Roger McGuinn, with one-off special performances by Joni Mitchell, Ringo Starr and Patti Smith.

Martin Scorsese has famously directed another documentary about Dylan. No Direction Home featured archival footage and interviews from the early parts of Dylan’s career, beginning with his Hibbing, Minnesota, childhood and ending with his 1966 Woodstock, New York, motorcycle accident.

Along with the new documentary, Bob Dylan’s management are busy prepping a new box set featuring music from the era.
