Indigenous poetry queen Melanie Mununggurr-Williams was last week crowned the top slam poet in the country after the 2018 Australian Slam Poetry Championships at the Sydney Opera House.
Munungurr-Williams, from Darwin, was awarded the title after she dropped her incredible poem on Aboriginal identity. She is the first ever Indigenous winner of the award.
As part of the prize, she will travel to a series of international events next year, including the Edmonton Poetry Festival, Ubud Writers & Readers Festival, and the Hong Kong International Literary Festival.
