Miley Cyrus’ single ‘Flowers’ has topped the UK singles charts for another week, making it the longest running female number one since Adele.
The single has topped the UK charts for the seventh consecutive week. This is the longest a song by a female solo artist has held the position since Adele’s song ‘Easy on Me’, which topped the charts on eight non-consecutive weeks in 2021 and 2022. ‘Flowers’ has surpassed songs like Pinkpantheress’ ‘Boy’s a liar’, which is currently ranked at number two, Harry Styles’ ‘As It Was’, ranked at number six and Taylor Swift’s ‘Anti-hero’, which currently sits at number 19.
‘Flowers’ and its accompanying music video were released on January 13. It has been streamed over 5.2 million times in the UK, making it their most streamed song.
To be featured on Cyrus’ eight studio album, Endless Summer Vacation, ‘Flowers’ is an anthem of strength, independence and empowerment. Cyrus describes the album which, includes collaborations with Sia and Brandi Carlile, as her “love letter to LA”. On March 3rd, she also released a demo version of ‘Flowers’.
With pointed lyrics directed towards her former flame, The Hunger Games star Liam Hemsworth, Cyrus draws from her personal experiences to create a song that’s both powerful and relatable. The pop star has been teasing the release of her new album, Endless Summer Vacation, with billboards reading ‘New Year. New Miley.’ And with lyrics like “I can love me better / I can love me better, baby,” Cyrus is reminding us all of the importance of self-love and growth. It’s no coincidence that the single was released on Hemsworth’s birthday, and with this track, Cyrus proves that she’s not afraid to speak her truth through her music.
Endless Summer Vacation will show the star at her “strongest and most confident”. In a press release, it was described as “very personal”. Its lyrics, music and imagery reflect “the strength she’s found focusing on both her physical and mental well-being”.
Endless Summer Vacation is due to be released on March 10 and can be preordered here.
