Earlier this month, when we first laid ears on Mudshark’s new single Nebgetables, we were immediately on board with their blistering concoction of sounds. The Auckland-based band belt out the kind of music you can’t help but move to—it’s brutal, but infectiously so.
Now, the band have unveiled their second EP, S01 EP02, in its entirety. Prepare yourselves, this thing is a five-track collection of pure sonic madness.
Auckland-based band Mudshark have unveiled their epic new EP S01 EP02; a five-track collection of genre-bending brilliance.
The EP’s opening track and lead single Bwen Stefani is a groovy slice of alt-rock, blending funky rhythms with anthemic rock vocal melodies. The song immediately establishes the ambitious vision of the EP—it refuses to be limited by genre… a theme common throughout the following four tunes.
Second track Panda steers more into straight-up rock, but remains undeniably groovy. It sits cohesively alongside its predecessor, but stretches the overall sound of the EP into something larger. Tappy evokes images of some bizarre, drunken night out, depicting a series of diabolical, debaucherous scenes.
By the time the EP’s closing track Aunt Blenavieve reaches its conclusion, you’ll have been roped in completely by Mudshark’s chaotic sounds.
This is the latest in a string of consistently great releases from this NZ band, and here’s hoping we won’t have to wait long to hear what they deliver next. For now, listen to the new EP above.
