Nirvana to celebrate 25 years of MTV Unplugged with a vinyl reissue

It’s been 25 years since the release of the classic live Nirvana album, MTV Unplugged in New York, and to celebrate, the record is getting an anniversary reissue this November.

This will be the first time the performance has been pressed as a double LP, and the release will include five rehearsal performances that were previously only available on DVD.

Nirvana’s iconic MTV Unplugged in New York is getting a 25th anniversary vinyl reissue this November, featuring some intimate rehearsal performances.

One of the gems amongst the rehearsals is an alternative take on their David Bowie cover, The Man Who Sold the World, a video of which can be seen below. Rehearsal versions of Polly, Pennyroyal Tea, Come As You Are, and the Meat Puppets’ Plateau are also included.

MTV Unplugged in New York was the first album Nirvana released after the death of Kurt Cobain. It debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, and also won a Grammy Award for The Best Alternative Music Album in 1996.

The reissue is due out on November 1, exactly 25 years after the original live album was released in 1994, and will also be available on streaming services. You can pre-order the album here.
