Notorious B.I.G. fans can now rent his childhood home in Brooklyn

Notorious B.I.G. fans now have the chance to rent out the hallowed ground of the rapper’s childhood home.

This opportunity allows lovers of Biggie to immerse themselves in his “one room shack”, and better understand the source of a lot of his creative inspiration.

For USD $4000 per month, you now have the chance to reside in Notorious’ 226 St. James Place home, in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn.

Completely renovated with high ceilings and plush architectural designs, the three bedroom home has deviated markedly from its origins, leaving only the original mouldings and windows behind.

Largely heralded as one of the greatest rappers of all time, Notorious has been recently honoured in his hometown of Brooklyn with a street being named after him. This is at odds with the antics of a rogue Brooklyn landlord who wished to destroy a Notorious B.I.G mural.

From the perspectives of local members of the community, the honouring of Biggie is a way of retaining the gritty and integral history of Brooklyn which gave rise to his art.

Laurie Cumbo, a City Councilwoman, explained how “[Gentrifiers] want to erase the history, they want to put up new cafes and boutiques and push us out of our community”.

From a real estate perspective, the agent vested in charge of the property, Fabienne Lecole described the home as such; “It’s a beautiful home and a fantastic neighborhood, filled with little shops and great transportation.”

“It’s so calm and residential now. It’s hard to imagine it’s the same street that he sang about with all the drugs and gunfire. It couldn’t be more different”.
