A month on from his untimely passing, Peggy Gou has paid tribute to the groundbreaking producer Andrew Weatherall at a recent concert.
Blasting the Weatherall-produced track Loaded by Primal Scream, Gou ended her most recent set in Leeds on an ecstatic high.
At a recent concert in Leeds, Peggy Gou paid tribute to her hero Andrew Weatherall, ending her set on his co-produced song Loaded.
Weatherall was meant to play the Inner City Electronic festival with Gou. In a post on her Instagram, Gou described: “Thank you so much Leeds. My last song was a tribute to Andrew Weatherall, he was supposed to play last night with me. Thank you again.” The track in question was the Primal Scream song Loaded, off their earth-shattering Weatherall produced album Screamadelica.
Weatherall was one of the great DJs and musical innovators, combining the club scene of Ibiza with classic rock grooves. Hundreds of tributes flooded in following his death, remembering Weatherall as a true visionary of dance music and genre-bending in general. Peggy Gou wrote an extended post to her Instagram account discussing his influence on her career.
She described him as, “One of the most important & influential artists in the DJ world and beyond. I always had goosebumps every time he played.”
“I remember when I met him for the first time in Australia I was nervous and he was such a gentleman too,” she continued. “I was dancing to his music until a minute before I had to go on stage in another room!”
Go out and listen to Screamadelica if you haven’t already. Its influence on production and dance music in general is incomparable. Even Daft Punk have described the album as the record that “put everything together in terms of genre.”
