Plastic Nightclub ft. Burn Antares, Cull, Miners + More

Back in January, we told y’all about a cool little night called Plastic Nightclub curated by Sydney tastemakers YON PLUME – a night featuring some pretty cool bands, all intertwined and generically psychedelic. This weekend (Sat 10th May), the coolest kids in Sydney are heading back to the Oxford Art Factory to bring you another stellar lineup.

Headlining the night will be Burn Antares, a bunch of kids from north of the bridge with a chiller attitude towards classic 60’s rock and roll. Simple backbeats, sizzling tambourines, whirling organ and laidback guitar solos – these guys are pretty much nailing the psych brief and doing so in a refreshingly un-90’s fashion. Take a listen to last years self titled full length LP from the long haired banditos over at their bandcamp.

In support will be Happy’s old mates Cull, who you already know from last year’s Ba Noi EP as well as The Dandelion – who sound as stereotypically floral as one would expect. These guys have a real unstoppable Anton Newcombe whisper-jam style, borrowing a lot from the swirly 60’s in their eclectic instrumentation.

The last tier of supports come from Wollongong’s very own Sonic Youth, Miners lend a brand of slowcore open tuning to the night. I saw these guys rock out (read: gaze at their shoes) at a house party and they must have used like 8 different guitars in their set. Almost exclusively Jaguars too – it was like a Fender showroom in that living room. Also Dead Brian, who come from the very depths of the psychedelic underground, incorporating blues and more contemporary rock sounds into their music.

Tickets are $13.30 from moshers and probably roughly $15 on the door. This one’s in the proper OAF, so expect a big, loud sound from Cull and Miners. Maybe grab some earplugs before you leave the house as well.
