PREMIERE: Dive into the shimmering psych-pop sounds of Material World Orchestra’s Lost In The Future

It was towards the end of last year that Perth-based outfit Material World Orchestra formed over a shared love of vintage synthesisers. It would appear that a lot has gone down since then, because in a relatively short space of time, they’ve crafted a sound that’s both authentic and expansive; it’ll have you shaking your hips and dreaming of distant universes all at once.

With the release of their debut single Lost In The Future, the band have quickly built themselves as an emerging act to watch. Here’s a hot tip from the Happy Mag team: keep an eye on these guys, we’re expecting big things.

On their debut single Lost In The Future, Perth-based outfit Material World Orchestra present a mind-bending slice of psych-pop brilliance.

Throughout the new single, Material World Orchestra—made up of Shaun McIlroy, Curtis McEntee and Jamie Turner—dance through a shimmering blend of disco, psych, and pop to craft a sound uniquely their own. With lush, glittery instrumental arrangements and dreamy vocal hooks, Lost In The Future will seep into your bones and leave you no choice but to groove.

Recorded in a log cabin, nestled away in the Western Australian hills, the track is a spectacular marriage of three distinct creative visions. Vocoders, vintage synths, and searing guitar lines all meld into one another, creating a seriously captivating slice of music.

Sharing the creative process equally between 3 people in that setting was such a thrill, no distractions and a positive, whatever goes mentality helped us basically record a whole EP from scratch in just under 3 days,” Turner said of the process.

These are still early days for this Perth band, but judging by the quality of what we’ve heard so far, I think we can safely expect plenty more great tunes. Here’s hoping we won’t have to wait long to hear what they deliver next.
