Sydney-based MC Imcpayne today unveils his debut single Therapy, an utterly electric hip-hop track. Calling in top-shelf production and trap’s downtrodden magnetism, it’s a blinder of an introduction.
Chris Payne is the man behind the name, a poet turned rapper who has been using creativity as an outlet since day one. Therapy touches upon mental health, substance and expectation with the authority of someone walking the artist’s path.
Calling in carefully selected notions of trap, hip-hop and EDM, Imcpayne has staked his claim with a dynamite debut single Therapy.
Therapy was recorded and produced by Michael McGlynn (L-FRESH The Lion, Little May) in Sydney’s Vienna People Studios. Payne, not one to take a back seat where his music is concerned, took on the role of co-producer.
“It’s been a journey. From start to finish we put a lot into this track, sonically, lyrically and visually to bring something authentic and different to the table,” Payne says of Therapy.
Rather than revelling in the downtempo discharge trap and Southern hip-hop are known for, Imcpayne attacks his rhythms with utter force. A track to dance to, a track to drink to, a track to debauch to.
Therapy is a winner.
Imcpayne will be launching Therapy live at Oxford Art Factory on Saturday, February 17th with Genesis Owusu for Rare Finds.
