PREMIERE: Nick Batterham unveils haunting new video for Perfect Cloud

In 2018, when Melbourne-based singer-songwriter Nick Batterham released his fifth studio album Golden Boy, the thing that immediately jumped out from his music was its vastness. Though only one track from the record exceeds the four-minute mark, his music holds a breadth that makes it feel massive.

Perfect Cloud is a perfect example of this. With a brief two-minute run-time, and sparse instrumental arrangements, the song feels simultaneously tender and powerful; sprawling and immediate—a balance that has been perfectly captured in Thuy Vy’s new video for the same track.

Nick Batterham’s new Thuy Vy-directed video clip for Perfect Cloud is equal parts tender and powerful; a haunting reflection of mourning.

Directed and shot by Thuy Vy, and starring Bela Palacio, the new video clip for Perfect Cloud carries a haunting peacefulness through its entire duration. As Batterham’s melancholic lyrics wrap their bittersweet tendrils through raw instrumentation, the perfect audio/visual alliance is crafted.

Over the course of his career, Thuy Vy’s photography has won the Head On Portrait Prize, as well as being shortlisted for awards like the Leica Documentary Award, Iris Award, Percival Photographic Prize and the Palm Photographic Prize.

On Friday, May 31st, at 30 Easey Street in Collingwood, Nick Batterham and Thuy Vy will be teaming for a one-night-only exhibition of photographic work, featuring a live performance from Batterham.
