PREMIERE: Waxhead get wild in their new clip for Animal

This one’s for the dog lovers.

Waxhead are one of those bands that are all about having fun. The kind of dudes that you could never imagine wrapped in a winter coat boarding the train to their office job in the CBD. They seem to permeate a sense of freedom; freedom from the shackles of modern society and the restrains of government structure, schools, nine to five jobs or organised religion. In other words they seem pretty fuckin’ wild, but is there more to Waxhead than meets the eye?

Waxhead get wild, and slightly political, after taking notes from their own four-legged mates in the their scruffy new video clip for Animal.

Animal is the new single taken from Waxhead’s debut EP Homewhich they put out just a few months back. The EP is all about the good times associated with rock ‘n’ roll, inspired by 60s and 70s counter-culture and sunstroke haziness. Animal is no exception. As the EP opener, it kicks off with the sound of a record ramping up before launching into a druggy melee of 70s guitars and growled vocals. “How does it feel?” they ask, “We’re domesticated/we’re domesticated.” The song discusses the complacency we deal with as citizens under control of The Man. “Don’t bite the hand that feeds/just get down on your knees,” they command. And Waxhead do as they’re told.

The video observes a day in the life of Waxhead as excitable pups; chasing gulls on the beach, going for car rides, playing fetch, brawling and swimming in the river – a pretty standard day for the domestic dog.

There’s a bit of a political edge to the song and the video captures that; four grown men reduced to wearing chains around their neck as dictated by their domestic masters, but that’s about as far as it goes. In the end it’s just pretty bloody hilarious watching four scrappy dudes tear around trying to imitate their four-legged mates (their own pets Indie, Steve-O, Huckleberry and Otto also feature in the clip), and it seems to encapsulate all that Waxhead are about; having a blast.

Waxhead are just about to embark on their first European tour, which will take them from the Netherlands to London on a 14 date run of shows. You can download and review Animal via the band’s triple J Unearthed page here. Best of luck fellers!
