Prince Estate announces monster reissue of seminal album 1999

Since Prince’s death, his estate have slowly been drip-feeding the public a wealth of material once kept under lock and key in the artist’s archives. Whether or not you agree with the carefree way it’s been shared, it’s certainly a treat to witness everything come to light.

The latest golden nugget is a deluxe reissue of Prince’s incredible album 1999, his fifth studio LP released in 1982.

Another one from the archives: 1999 is set to be reissued in deluxe, featuring unreleased tracks, live recordings, and plenty more goodies.

The reissue will ship in three versions. Standard includes the remastered album on 2x180g purple (of course) vinyl and CD – also coming to streaming services. The Deluxe edition includes 35 additional tracks from the vault over two CDs or four LPs.

And then there’s the Super Deluxe edition for the die-hards, which includes every piece of audio Prince released in and around 1982, 23 extra unreleased studio tracks, a complete recording of a 1999 tour performance in Detroit, and a DVD of a Houston show on December 29th, 1982.

That’s not quite it though, you’ll also score handwritten lyrics from the era including Little Red Corvette, rare photography by Allen Beaulieu, and liner notes from Rolling Stone critic David Fricke, Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan, radio host Andrea Swensson, and Prince scholar Duane Tudahl.

The reissue is due for release on November 29th.
