Saint Pepsi – Fall Harder

Saint Pepsi? As in, a canonised soft-drink? No, no. I’m talkin’ bout the super cheesy, fun 80’s pop inspired musician from New York! Duh…

As random as the name sounds, it’s pretty adept at describing such fun and psychedelic* sounds. Just like the aforementioned soft-drink, Ryan DeRobertis’ music is refreshingly light-hearted, tooth-achingly sweet and full of bubbles!

I’ve always felt that the 80s are the decade you want to hide in that deep, dark corner of your closet, right next to that multicolour sweater your Gran knitted for you… You know, that sweater… Let’s, be honest, it was super daggy, even if I hadn’t existed yet to witness it firsthand, I’ve seen the pictures and let’s not kid ourselves.

Fall Harder is all that I ask for in a pop song, catchy and fun without decreasing the amount of brain cells or self-respect I have for myself. WIN. Sure, it’s a cutesy crushing ode to this fully sick babe who you couldn’t Fall Harder for – a very original concept (not), but hey, I take quite a post-modern view on the meaning of ‘originality’ and since when did something have to be ‘original’ to be quirky and interesting?

It’s the type of track you want to play on your island holiday whilst sailing on your yacht, or plug into your ears on the train to work pretending you’re on holiday because you aren’t loaded with cash and have to work like the rest of us proles…

A super-fun song with infectious and way funky electric-guitar hooks as well as punchy and fully 80s electronic drum beats, Fall Harder made me smile from ear-to-ear and feel pleasant tingles in my tummy (yes, I’m five years old). If you want a description, I’d say this track sounds like vintage Phoenix (the French band, not the mythical creature.) meets 80s elevator music, but in a good way!

Listen to this song. It’ll make you smile.

*The day has come. The word psychedelic has officially lost it’s meaning. I’m done.
