There are a deluge of amazing producers pouring out of Sydney right now, two of those being twins Cosmo and Patrick Liney – aka Cosmo’s Midnight. The charismatic duo are making serious waves of late with their brilliant EP Moments – a veritable melting pot of collaborations and musical alliances. These two are the dudes to speak to about who’s humming right now in electronic music, so it only made sense that we asked them who their favourite producers in Sydney are – warning: they have pretty damn good taste.
Note from Cosmo and Patrick: “Sydney is like an amazing lolly bag mix, musically speaking. Here are 5 distinct acts that we love and feel like are making a good name for the Sydney electronic music scene.”
Swindail
I’m pretty sure this guy just finished school although you wouldn’t know because he’s a giant! He has amazing musical sensibilities though jumping across many styles effortlessly with lots of finesse and grace. Fav tracks – Swindail Goes To America EP.
Basenji
It wouldn’t be fair if we didn’t include our good friend Basenji in this piece. We’ve been friends with him since before any of us were doing Cosmo’s Midnight or Basenji and it’s been really fun to see both of our acts take shape simultaneously. Fav track – Dawn.
Wave Racer
Another important act in the Sydney scene is Wave Racer who has been making big *waves* for the last 2 or so years. Also a greatly dear friend who we have known with Basenji since before any of our musical careers took off. Tommy is a meticulous producer with a keen eye for detail and it’s great to have him around to help out with tracks. Fav track – Streamers.
Cassius Select
Cassius Select who also makes up part of the dynamic boys in Black Vanilla has been making bold lo-fi shuffley rhythms for around 2 years. I’m glad he’s around because he brings a really important aspect to Sydney’s music, some real flavour. Fav track – Bruv.
Touch Sensitive
Touch Sensitive is amazing, he captures a sound that we really feel is lacking in the world in the moment. He manages to bring disco nostalgia to a modern setting, keeping it relevant and exciting his songs always evoke bittersweet emotions, a rare and sought after quality that elevates him above so many others. Fav Song – Pizza Guy.
