For those of you that haven’t yet heard of NZ Psych/Pub/IN YOUR FUCKING FACE rockers The Datsuns, its time you give these badass moonshine bandits a listen and have a lager fuelled hoe-down.
The Datsuns released their first single way back in 2000 after winning a battle of the bands comp in Hamilton NZ for being so badass. Their single Supergyration pretty much set the score for their unique, riff driven, LOUD, fast rock n roll. Unfortunately, this was also the year when Eiffel 65’s I’m Blue reigned supreme with the number 1 spot on Australia’s ARIA charts. My faith in mankind was faltering. The Datsuns are like Queens of the Stone age on crack with slight similarities to Melbournites Reptiles. Its fast, its fun and there’s literally never a dull moment… If you were in a pub fight with bikies, The Datsuns would make the perfect soundtrack to the brawl.
Their most recent release, the Death Rattle Boogie LP is a continuation of their balls to the wall style but definitely seems more polished than their earlier releases. Also… did I mention there are some face melting guitar solos worthy of a Wayne’s World style headbang?
