The festival that banned mobile phones so you can savour the moment

Organisers for the FLY Open Air Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland took the extreme step of banning mobile phones. The festival took place over the weekend, with phones being locked away in special cases upon entry to the Boiler Room.

Is this the way of the future? The FLY Open Air Festival in Scotland went to extreme measures to make sure punters were in the moment by banning mobile phones.

In an interview with Metro, festival director Tom Ketley gives up his reasons for the stance:

Dance music is becoming more popular within youth culture, and more and more young people are getting addicted to their phones. It means people are watching the whole show through their screens.”

Seems like a logistical nightmare, but the effort to preserve the purity of the experience should be applauded. Food for thought.
