In 2008, Arctic Monkeys‘ Alex Turner and The Rascals frontman-cum-solo artist Miles Kane formed The Last Shadow Puppets and released an absolutely brilliant album called The Age of The Understatement. It has been almost seven years since its release and there had only been whispers of another album until about a month ago when the band released a mysterious teaser for new material. Now we finally have something solid to feast on, it’s called Bad Habits.
The single comes accompanied by a performance video featuring Kane and Turner (plus the bands third member/producer/drummer, Simian Mobile Disco and long serving Arctic Monkeys producer James Ford) absolutely tearing through the track, interspersed with cuts of ghoulish colours and reflections and the duo performing some unsavoury acts on beds and couches. It’s a pretty mesmerising affair, spurred on by director Ben Chappell’s haunting, grainy style. Chappell has worked on many of Arctic Monkeys’ recent clips.
The track seems to be a natural progression for the band – a little more manic than their previous material, but still featuring those cinematic orchestral elements and a whole bunch of spooky guitar work. The band are still working on the new album, which is due out sometime this year.
