The latest Chapter: new Stüssy store opens in Sydney

Stüssy’s worldwide Chapter network is an innovative design model conceptualised by W&PA. Centred on complimenting the design direction of their respective locations, Stüssy’s Chapter stores have been a major success in Amsterdam, Los Angeles, London and Toronto.

The latest Chapter Store to join Stüssy’s worldwide network opens in Sydney on Friday March 22. It’s set to stock a limited range of special products, as part of a collaborative collection with Australian retailer and Darlinghurst neighbour Supply.

Stüssy has been a key surf brand since the late ’80s. Born from the Southern California scene, Stüssy swept through the clothing landscape as a brand redefining the look and ideology of casual wear.

As a youth clothing brand, Stüssy’s developmental years centred on a time of rapid change in the music young people listened to. This ultimately shaped the style they’re so acclaimed for now.

In the music scene the late ’70s gave us punk, while the early ’80s brought us DIY rap. Punk broke creative and aesthetic barriers and taught us that anyone could have a band. Rap pushed social boundaries and explored the ideas of remixing and sampling.

These new ideas and territories created a new modern platform for fashion and cultural expression. The designs and overall aesthetic touched on references from a range of underground subcultures that resonated with Stüssy; lending it the unique style we know and love.
