The Warriors’ iconic score is finally being reissued on vinyl, just in time for its 40th anniversary

Ahead of the film’s 40th anniversary next year, Waxwork Records have reissued Barry DeVorzan’s score to The Warriors on 180 gram vinyl.

The 2xLP set features a newly remastered version of the soundtrack which apparently includes every single musical cue heard throughout the film. Master tapes for the film itself and the original score were cross-referenced for full authenticity.

Fans of The Warriors and its iconic score, it’s time to come out to play. Waxwork Records is reissuing the soundtrack on vinyl ahead of its 40th anniversary.

Despite a healthy reception from critics and a juicy opening weekend, the original 1979 release of The Warriors was steeped in controversy. The first screenings were linked to an outbreak of vandalism and unfortunately, three killings.

As director Walter Hill explained to Esquire in 2014:

“I think the reason why there were some violent incidents is really very simple: The movie was very popular with the street gangs, especially young men, a lot of whom had very strong feelings about each other. And suddenly they all went to the movies together!”

“They looked across the aisle and there were the guys they didn’t like, so there were a lot of incidents. And also, the movie itself is rambunctious — I would certainly say that.”
