It has just been announced that beloved adult cartoon Beavis and Butt-Head will be resurrected from the grave.
Comedy Central has signed a deal with series creator, Mike Judge, reviving the comedy show for two new seasons, as well as spin-offs and specials.
“‘Beavis’ and ‘Butt-Head’ are entering a whole new Gen Z world”: the beloved adult cartoon is making a comeback, almost thirty years after its creation.
Judge is set to write and produce the revival, and will also return as the voice actor for the two protagonists. Speaking on the news, he described: “It seemed like the time was right to get stupid again.”
A quintessential Gen X comedy, Beavis and Butt-head originally aired on MTV from 1993 to 1997, running for seven seasons. In 2011 it was revived for one season. Based on two metal-obsessed teenage delinquents – the titular Beavis and Butt-head – the show was celebrated for its unapologetic satire and incisive social commentary.
“In this new iteration, ‘Beavis’ and ‘Butt-Head’ are entering a whole new Gen Z world,” a press release described of the revival, hinting that the show will explore “meta themes relatable to both new and old fans.”
“We are thrilled to be working with Mike Judge and the great team at 3 Arts again as we double down on adult animation at Comedy Central,” described Chris McCarthy, head of ViacomCBS’ entertainment and youth group, in a statement.
“Beavis and Butt-Head were a defining voice of a generation, and we can’t wait to watch as they navigate the treacherous waters of a world light-years from their own.”
There is no news yet on when the two new seasons will air.
