Mike Porcaro, best known as the bass player for American rock band Toto has passed away last evening following a lengthy battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, otherwise known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
Porcaro’s brother who also plays keyboards in Toto posted the news on Facebook stating “Our brother Mike passed away peacefully in his sleep at 12:04 AM last night at home surrounded by his family. Rest in peace, my brother.” Toto guitarist Steve Lukather shared his sentiments on Twitter saying “I will miss him more than I could ever put into words. My deepest love to the family. God Bless.”
Mike Porcaro joined Toto in 1982 and continued to record and tour with the band until his illness required his retirement in 2007.
