Underage guitarist uses wireless gear to play set from venue carpark

All of us know the feeling when we are on the edge of seventeen, dying to get to the over 18s gigs. Some of us even know what it feels like being underage, having to wait until we are old enough to play at some licensed venues.

Portland tech-deathcore band, Ancient Burials were set to play a gig at the Hawthorne Theatre in Portland on August 30th but found themselves stuck when their guitarist was denied access to the venue because he was underage.

After what would have been some frantic panicking, the band solved the access issue by arming the guitarist with wireless gear, allowing him to play the set from outside in the venue’s carpark.

Thankfully fellow musicians who were set to play alongside Ancient Burials had the wireless gear which ultimately saved the day: “So our homeboy in Ancient Burials was a bit too young to play inside, so we hooked him up with some wireless gear,Paradigm Shift shared in a Facebook post.

“I think it has to do with Oregon’s state laws,” bassist Galen VanEeckhoutte explained in a comment.

Ancient Burials took to Facebook to share footage of their guitarist. Despite the isolation, he still totally shredded it, playing like he would have in front of an audience. “Thank you Paradigm Shift for helping us make a shitty situation to something we couldn’t have expected,” the band shared. “To everyone who came out and moshed with us inside & outside the venue, we fucking love you.”

While it’s kind of a cute story, it really points out just how far music technology, and particularly how far wireless tech has come, suggesting the endless possibilities that the live music scene is yet to take advantage of.
