Watch Lawrence Arabia perform ‘People Are Alright’ Live at Enmore

New Zealand’s finest, Lawrence Arabia (aka James Milne) recently came to the Live at Enmore studio. He kept it stripped-back and intimate for his performance of People Are Alright.

The track appears on Lawrence Arabia’s Singles Club, where it’s supported by a full arrangement. For his Live at Enmore session though, the track was boiled down to its raw elements of piano and vocals.Lawrence Arabia

Lawrence Arabia was a recent guest of the Live at Enmore studio. Fresh off the plane from New Zealand, he launched into an intimate rendition of his track, People Are Alright.

The performance reflected the hopeful vulnerability of Lawrence Arabia, undercut with a rich vein of sardonic wit.

Before he hit the studio, he reflected on the song’s origins:

It started out as a kind of polemic about how people were so terrible and it started out life as a song called Everything’s Shit.”

After some sage advice from a friend, he approached the song from a different angle:

I was just watching some people doing something beautiful, innocent and sweet. I think they were feeding ducks or something… and I just decided people are alright.
