Watch Tame Impala cover Lady Gaga on the first night of their tour

Tame Impala are currently playing a world tour jam-packed with tracks from their latest album, The Slow Rush, which has been eaten up by fans across the globe.

Set to play in Sydney in late April, the band kicked off the tour in San Diego last night, and they had a surprise in store in the form of a Lady Gaga cover.

Kicking off The Slow Rush tour in San Diego last night, Tame Impala put their own spin on the Lady Gaga classic, Perfect Illusion.

Fans who attended the San Diego show were given a special treat when the band covered Lady Gaga’s 2016 single Perfect Illusion. Sticking closely to the original melody, the band drenched the pop hit in washed-out synths and guitars in trademark Tame Impala style. The song choice was fitting because Kevin Parker actually co-wrote it for Gaga alongside Mark Ronson.

Along with the cover, the band also treated fans to popular tracks featured on The Slow Rush, including One More Year, Posthumous Forgiveness, and Is It True. The opening show also paid homage to their 2015 album Currents, which gave the already well-established Tame Impala the name they have today. Tracks such as Reality In Motion and Past Life were also played live for the first time to the delight of the crowd.

In other news, Tame Impala have just announced that they are partnering up with REVERB to ensure the tour is eco-friendly.
