M.I.A. has dropped the first trailer for her upcoming documentary MATANGI / MAYA / M.I.A., and my lord, this looks absolutely incredible.
Set to be released this September, the documentary was “drawn from a never before seen cache of personal footage spanning decades,” says Sundance.
Following years of development, M.I.A.’s documentary MATANGI / MAYA / M.I.A. is finally set for release, and you can watch the incredible first trailer now.
The film orginally premiered a Sundance earlier this year, and was the winner of the Special Jury Prize.
“It’s a weird film, and it’s not easy to cut together. It’s not like I have a camera following me around, documenting my fucking dressing room,” the artist told Pitchfork back in 2013.
“There’s a political angle, which is the documentary I wanted to shoot on Sri Lanka. Then there’s footage I shot when my brother came out of prison when he was like 16. And footage of this crazy mess with my personal life.
“They’re all interesting things you’re not going to get from a Beyoncé documentary. It’s just so complicated. I can’t even get my head around that.”
MATANGI / MAYA / M.I.A. was directed by Stephen Loveridge and scored by Paul Hicks and Dhani Harrison.
