Adelaide will be opening their arms to a brand new festival in September this year. Entitled Vision Festival the all ages romp at Jive will see a massive local line up celebrate all aspects of rock and roll. Created, curated and overseen by seasoned music writer and Happy author Jonty Czuchwicki, who has had experience writing for The Music, Rip it Up, The AU Review, Metal Obsession, Pilerats and many more, the festival will combine his widespread musical knowledge and contacts in the editorial industry with his hands on experience running the popular Adelaide club night Cobra Presents.
“The club night had been running really well for the last 6 months” says Czuchwicki. “It has generated a sort of cult following and I figured it was time to do it on a grander scale”. The all ages nature of the festival is a big selling point, and Czuchwicki hopes to see as many young people out there as possible.
“When I first started writing for online zines I had just turned 17. I was showing the security my fake ID and hoping he wouldn’t overhear when I told the door girl my real name to get my review tickets”. A lack of local all ages shows is the reason Czuchwicki believes that only hardcore muso’s pursue the scene once they are of age. “If there was enough happening to instil enthusiasm in young people for a number of years before they were of age they would already be indoctrinated in the scene. At the moment it seems to be just those people in bands and the friends they drag along that make up the majority of Adelaide’s music scene”. Czuchwicki is also excited, as all ages shows are typically outlawed by Jive on Saturdays, but after some careful convincing he was able to get the all clear.
“Although this one is for everyone I really hope some people aged 15-17 take the opportunity, there will be definitely be some who see the festival as a god send!” As for the line-up, Czuchwicki has taken no shortcuts in booking the absolute cream of Adelaide’s crop with a massive line up topped out by psych rockers Glass Skies, who have made waves supporting King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Kingswood and are set to open for The Preatures.
The Dunes, whose moody droned out rock and roll has seen them push the Grace Emily Hotel to capacity every Friday night for a month straight and Sparkspitter, who opened this year’s Laneway and Groovin the Moo in Adelaide. Joining them will be other leading locals Archers, Battlehounds, West Thebarton Brothel Party, Cobra, Slick Arnold and of course one lucky special guest in the form of a competition winning high school band.
Tickets to Vision Festival, which takes place at Jive on September 26 and runs from midday to 10:30pm, will cost $15 + Booking Fee and will be available from Moshtix!
