Real life villain and all-round shit blokeĀ Martin Shkreli may be forced to hand over his one-of-a-kind Wu-Tang Clan album that he purchased for $US2-million ($AUS3-million) at an auction in 2015.
Earlier this year, Shkreli was charged with multiple counts of securities fraud as well as one count of conspiracy to commit securities fraud. Prosecutors are looking to seize multiple of Shkreli’s assets, including an unreleased Lil Wayne album Tha Carter V, a Picasso painting, an original Enigma Machine which is a Nazi relic used by the German military in WWII, and the only existing copy of Wu-Tang Clan’s 2015 album Once Upon A Time In Shaolin.
Rejoice! We may all get to hear Wu-Tang Clan’s Once Upon A Time In Shaolin after all, as authorities attempt to seize it from Martin Shkreli.
A contractual stipulation regulates that the album can not be released commercially until 2103, however it can be released for free at any time.
Shkreli’s Attorney Benjamin Brafman made a statement saying: “We will vigorously oppose the government motion. Our position is clear. None of the investors lost any money and Martin did not personally benefit from any of the counts of conviction. Accordingly, forfeiture of any assets is not an appropriate remedy.”
Shkreli rose to infamy when his Pharmaceutical company Turing Pharmaceuticals acquired ownership of the medicine Daraprim, and sold it to hospitals with a price hike of 5000 percent.
For now, let’s all hope that this Wu-Tang album will be available for listening sooner rather than later.
