If you’re a fan of Sticky Fingers’ early music and their spacey, coastal wobble then this latest release from the NSW Mid North Coast outfit Vanilla Gorilla is right up your alley.
A smooth and infectious anthem, Love Is the Earth is a song with both lyrical clarity and musical intent. Socially and politically aware, the song’s complexity is beautifully parred with its consistently evolving instrumentation.
Complex and filled with escapism, if Love is the Earth is anything to go off, Vanilla Gorilla are a band you haven’t heard the last of.
Vanilla Gorilla are a hot little number for summer, recalling the tones of Tash Sultana and Josh Cashman. From the outset you witness the swirling and effervescent guitars slowly creeping up and up in power and emotion, curling into a wondrous solo as the track closes.
Love is the Earth is an articulate and engaging release from a band with a full and gripping sound, beautifully balanced guitar and drums with just enough tantalising effect to make the single a tasty treat for any listener.
What we love about Vanilla Gorilla is that while their music might have a chilled and summer soaked aesthetic, lyrically this is a band with a lot more punch. Really conversing with their audience, there are plenty of ideas contained within this release and they are far from lost in that salty, suave sound.
Having just wrapped up a bunch of shows on their East Coast Tour and ending the trip with a 300-strong hometown crowd, Vanilla Gorilla are making some serious ground. Coming up over the summer is a a huge opportunity performing alongside Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, RAAVE TAPES, and Pandemic at Byron Bay’s The Northern for New Years Eve.
