The underground Australian music scene has been taken for ransom by grungy hard pub rock of late and the sortie of Melbourne three-piece ScotDrakula are certainly no exception. Scotdrakula cleverly infuse 70’s beach rock with a grungier garage feel – they are the musical baby of Lime Cordiale and Regular John. Although, the analogy might not be completely accurate as all of these bands are equally fresh-faced.
ScotDrakula released a two-tracker entitled Break Me Up in November last year and have already been receiving much critical love. A love, which can mostly be attributed to Matt Neumann’s unapologetically ravenous yet blemished (in the good way) vocals asset by a subterranean bass. (Editorial would also like readers to note the sex machine that is the Placid Blue Pawn Shop Mustang in Matt’s hands. That guitar is an absolute boss.)
‘Break Me Up’ came as a follow up to their EP ‘Burner’ with they first began to pave their way onto the Australian music scene. Scotdrakula got off a national tour last year supporting the force that is Mac Demarco in which their live performance also received a veritable thumbs up from the critical world.
If you’ve been hanging out at The Tote in Collingwood, Victoria over the last couple of weeks, you’ll have been lucky enough to catch these guys supporting Vowel Movement alongside such cool kids as Fluorescent Organs and Dead Heir.
