Client Liaison are one of those acts that no longer really need an introduction. If you’ve been listening to anything anyone has been saying on local radio, the blogosphere or at your local record store (hah!), you should already be familiar with the 80s style synth-pop wizardry that these Melbournites have been infecting the nation’s musical sensibilites with. Oh, look what I’ve done, I’ve just introduced them. How unnecessary.
So if you’re a fan of the era when it was all Coles New World and Ansett Air, don those shoulderpads and head down to the Beresford Hotel in Surry Hills this Saturday to catch Client Liaison alongside Nicole Millar and Lanterns. Oh, but don’t use that brick phone you still have under your bed to tell your mates about this gig – I’m pretty sure Telecom Australia doesn’t exist anymore and plus, those things caused brain cancer.
With her brand of chilled out electronica and her definite affiliation with everything neon pink and golden glitter, Sydney gal Nicole Millar has been regularly featured by some of the most creative names in local electronica. Think Cosmo’s Midnight, Emoh Instead and Peking Duk. On top of this is her brilliant Taken, a hit on FBi, and sure to be equally hit-worthy tomorrow night. Lanterns, also hailing from Sydney, can only be described as folktronica – dabbling in melodics as much as in soothing, journey inspiring vocals.
This one is at the Beresford Upstairs on a Saturday, which means you’ll NEED to get there at a reasonable hour – we’re talking like 7:30 pm – to avoid the most heinous queue in all of Sydney. Also, when you’re at the bar, grab more drinks than you think you’ll need – the bar queue upstairs gets incredibly packed at peak hours. Also be careful wandering downstairs after about 10pm – if the venue is at capacity, the bouncers might not let you back upstairs. If you can navigate all these hazards – you’re bound to have a bad night (bad in the 80’s slang sense of the word, in which it means good).
