Wrapping up another huge year for Australian music, the longlist for the 13th annual Australian Music Prize has been announced. 45 albums have been selected and were announced last night at an official launch party in Melbourne.
45 Australian albums have been longlisted for the $30,000 2017 Australian Music Prize. Check out the list below.
A list of more than 400 albums released in 2017 were reviewed by a panel of judges, which was whittled down to 45 artists to go in the running for the $30,000 cash prize.
Talking about the prize, Jen Cloher – who was nominated for her incredible self-titled album – has said: “The AMP is Australia’s most important music prize because it’s judged purely on artistic merit. Having been both a judge and a nominee, I’ve seen the incredible amount of thought that goes into selecting the shortlist.
Anyone who lands on there can be assured that it’s no accident. Australians are making some of the best music in the world at the moment. $30,000 can go a long way towards touring and recording your next album – another important reason to get behind the AMP!”
Amongst the longlist are King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard for one of their four albums released this year (Flying Microtonal Banana), Courtney Barnett for her collaboration with Kurt Vile, Lotta Sea Lice, Gang of Youths for their ARIA favourite, Go Farther In Lightness, Gold Class, POND, Mere Women and heaps more.
