Love yourself some reverb? So does Oliver Tank. Hear him run us through the 5 pieces of gear he loves most

Wreathed in hearty reverb, dreamlike production and vocals straight out of the stratosphere, Oliver Tank’s debut album OT was exactly what the doctor ordered.

Eager to get to the bottom of how he crafted his otherwordly sound, we asked Tank for a rundown of his current setup. Gear addicts be warned; we take no responsibility for hits on your wallet as a result of this article.

Which pieces of gear bring the Oliver Tank sound to life? Dance in delay, reverb and electronic beats with Sydney’s downbeat mastermind.

SP404SX

This is my trusty SP404SX sampler, I use it for all my live performances. It’s a staple for many electronic musicians. It’s sturdy as hell, it has never let me down and it doesn’t need to be connected to a computer to work, which is a nice old school touch.

Eventide Space Reverb Pedal

The producer I worked with down in Melbourne got me onto this. We used it a lot on the album and I’m starting to use it live also. It’s one hell of a reverb pedal and if you didn’t already know, I love me some reverb. It has a huge bank of presets and a lot of controls to fiddle with. One of my all time favourite pedals.

Moog MF – 104M Analog Delay

I’ve used this thing in a lot of my recordings. It has an incredibly unique sound and can really add a lot to a track. If you link it to a MIDI clock you can quantize the delay settings to a certain BPM and get some really unique sounds out of it. I like to run vocals and guitar through this bad boy.

Dynacord Echocord Mini

This one is an old German tape delay I bought off Gumtree. It’s quite fiddly but it has an incredibly unique sounds if you can get it going just right. I plan on using it a lot in future recordings.

Yahmaha DTX Drums

My trusty drum pad thats been with me since my early touring days. I’ve used this both live and in recordings. It adds a lot of flare to a live show but also has some really cool sounds on it I’ve used in my own music. Love this thing.
