Perth duo Dianas pack a guitar pop punch

What do you get when you have two super talented musos that move in together and make sweet tunes and sounds, making your own living situation seem a little dull in comparison? You get the Dianas. Let me introduce you to Nathalie Pavlovic and Caitlin Moloney on vocals and guitars, and John Lekias (aka Doctopus) on drums. From starting out in a Perth sharehouse living room in 2012, Dianas have seen themselves supporting bands such as Dick Diver, Abbe Mae, Felicity Groom and Grace Woodroofe, just to name a few.

Dianas

Best roomates ever? We sure as hell think so. Dianas’ Nathalie Pavlovic and Caitlin Moloney boast a fresh, excitable and urgent rock sound with sweet vocals.

Releasing their debut EP EP#01  in 2012, this was followed up with an AA side CD Cruelty and Origami and their second EP, wait for it…EP#2 in 2014. These all combine a whirlwind of pop, indie rock and surf influences, meshed together with dreamy vocals and melodies, it’s pretty sweet stuff!

2014 was a pretty busy year for these guys. They began writing and producing their upcoming album, played a bunch of shows throughout their hometown and released their digital single 1000 Years. This single is definitely worth a listen. It has a real rock and twangy instrumental sound, which is complimented with some soft and really beautiful vocals. Parts of this track (through the drums and guitar) are somewhat reminiscent of The Jezabels, but the song as a whole has a unique and fresh sound. With Nathalie saying she takes most of her inspiration from friends playing music around her, watching YouTube videos of live performances and musicians stage presences, this may be why they have their unique sound; they’re not trying to emulate a specific style or genre of music as such.

After being a feature artist on triple J’s Unearthed and being nominated for the best breakthrough act in the 2013 WAM (Western Australian Music) awards, Dianas were chosen by triple J Unearthed to open the Laneway Festival in Fremantle in February 2015, playing alongside the likes of FKA Twigs and Little Dragon. This performance gained Dianas plenty of positive reviews and attention, with their act being described as fitting in perfectly with the Laneway vibe.

Set to release a new single on June 13 at The Bird in Perth, followed with an album launch around July/August, 2015 is already shaping up to be another busy year for the Dianas. And be sure to keep an eye on their social media pages (especially you Perth dwellers) for upcoming gigs!
